Modern traffic lights
The interval in changes of traffic light on modern streets are so long that they cause giant traffic jams. If you want to have smoothly flowing traffic, stay with the old streets.

It is not possible to remove traffic light from the streets

weird, as i've been doing it since the game was released. click in the traffic overlay, and click on the traffic light icon at the intersections.

doesn't work when you add a station or depot directly to the main road, which is why i usually put a small bit of road down, and then place stations on those.

Traffic lights duration is tied to traffic patterns, of course, so main arterial roads will have priority over traffic on less travelled side streets.

If you have a lot of traffic in an intersection, less or longer traffic light duration will not change things up - you need to remove that traffic instead. Add more public transit, and/or setup road/highway bypasses.

It is.

Road > Tools > Traffic Lights > click in any intersection of your choice to toggle lights on or off, including in intersections that normally do not have them by default.

Haven't tried recently but there was always exception, you cannot remove traffic lights if the junction connects directly to a depot.

That is correct, but if you draw a small section of road first, then the depot, then you have control over the traffic lights.

Cheers,
Chris.

Thank you all. I am excited to try it when I can play again.

You can also put the depot or station off on a side street (small or medium) that won't automatically put traffic lights at intersections, which is probably a more appropriate location for at least the depot building than right on a major road.

I went to Streets > Tools > and there are no traffic light. I tried to find a mod to activate it, bu could not. Could you please tell me how to activate it?

Assuming that you are in the 'modern' era and traffic lights are being added to your junctions then the icon should appear in the Streets > Tools menu, along with options to change tram tracks, electrification, bus lanes, and player ownership.

Options don't appear until you reach the required year for that feature.

Thanks #ajax_post. I understand. Do you know what year the options appear?

Traffic lights will appear in the Tools menu in 1950.

Thanks. I started a new game, so I have to wait.

It is amazing how it works. Thanks guys for a splendid advise. On the other side, it is a pity that the lights do not work properly. They should.
