When do you use trains vs trucks?

I just wanted some input about when to choose trains over trucks or vice versa. For me, I've been using trains only for long distances. If two destinations are within the same view on a "medium-zoom" view, I use trucks.

Is this what everyone else does too?

Bonus question: It looks like a later unlocked truck is actually worse than an earlier truck. Can anyone explain why a worse truck becomes available as time progresses?

Benz Tarpaulin Truck: 25 mph / all cargo / 7 capacity / 70 emission

AMO F15 Tarpaulin Truck: 25 mph / all cargo / 6 capacity / 71 emission

The first truck comes earlier, but has better stats (1 less emission and 1 more capacity)

Generally speaking, I use trains for high capacity and trucks for low capacity lines.

I like trains. So I use trains where ever possible and mostly just use trucks to move cargo to or from my rail stations. But that's more of a personal preference than a suggestion on what's the "best" way to do it.

As far as the bonus question. Is one of those trucks from the European vehicle list while the other is from the Asian vehicle list? If so then that's why that's happening. And makes it a little more understandable. The trucks are designed to be used separately but the game still lets you use both at the same time if you want to.

In general, I use trains between cities, and trucks within cities. Each city has a rail line with a truck depot and bus station. Trucks deliver goods throughout the city.

But I also set up my industries with up to 1,600 production, so trucks could never handle that much production. But a train with 50 cargo wagons can :)

If I recall correctly, the Benz is in all three vehicle sets while the AMO F-15 is in the American and Asian vehicle sets.

Trains haul 10X more, 10X faster, and make 10X more money.
If it's not a short trip and the terrain isn't fairly flat, use a train. The choice isn't between using trucks or a using a train, it's can you NOT use a train and you HAVE to use trucks.
