Mail and Waste addon
Hi All,

is anyone else using this addon? I've been playing a bit with it and find it an interesting addition. The mail in particular takes some thought to get right.

What trucks are people using for the mail? The vanilla trucks can only carry one cargo at a time, and I'm trying to setup a mail route that will both pickup unsorted mail and dropoff sorted mail at the same time, so I need a truck that can carry two cargos.

If people could suggest their favorite trucks for this?

Thanks,
Chris.

For immersion I usually use delivery vans for mail, i.e. FedEx, DHL, etc.

What you're looking for is "trucks with two compartments".

Or more than two, of course.

The vanilla game only offers multi-compartmental cargo ships and planes. The vast majority of mod content doesn't add multi-compartmental cargo vehicles - I have seen cargo trams with multi compartments though.

But not trucks. I did, however, find this:
DAF 55 Distribution trucks II

Haven't tested it but it promises "up to 10 compartments".

I use this mod a lot as I like to use the UK mail coaches/coach trains.
I also use for delivery:

The DAF 55 [as mentioned] are also good as are others I will add on [for waste] later when I find them. The are some German waste trucks on the transportfever.net too.

This one I believe has the trucks for the waste disposal.

These have rubbish/dumpster trucks. You need DAF F241 mod loaded first.

@zapp, thanks for that, I will give those a try when I get to the appropriate year.

I also found this one. Quite a bit of overkill for what I need, but they are allowing me to do unsorted mail and sorted mail one the same line at the same time.

The cargo trams do allow different cargos per trailer, but I don't tend to use those. Having to add tracks and electrification over long sections of country roads just doesn't look right.

Just to note, chiefly to any newcomers to this thread:

You really don't.

*Need* multi-compartmental trucks, that is.

The game definitely lets you set up a single cargo route that can handle many types of cargo, no problem.

The fact that any individual truck or other vehicle only loads a single cargo at a time just isn't an issue when the next truck comes along and picks up another cargo.

Instead of hauling 6 pieces of one cargo and 4 pieces of another cargo, you just get one truck hauling 10 pieces of the first cargo and the next truck hauling 10 pieces of the second.

I get the multi-compartmental truck looks cooler but it's not like you MUST use one. I also understand that in this particular case, with this particular mod, city buildings actually emit a cargo instead of just accepting them (like in the vast majority of other cases), and having more than one compartment helps with efficacy: the truck doesn't need to first fully empty before it can accept a new cargo - just as long as one compartment is empty it can start loading the second cargo.

But again, that's rare outside this particular mod. If you have complicated supply networks, just use trains instead, where you can view each freight car as its own "compartment" of that train. It's like a 20 car train is a vehicle with 20 compartments: each freight car can carry cargo independently of the other cars.
