1) manually alter the *.msh files, adding an array of 0s (one for each material) and material names (check out the freestyle train station, it has lots of those)
2) download the plugin "Blender Converter 0.5.3" from transportfever.net . You will have to seek it patiently amid the babble.
3) start Blender and activate the plugin.
4) import your edited meshes where they are and export them where you want them to go. Always double-check the location, it's buggy sometimes.
5) remove the plugin artifacts if any, because they are useless and will crash the game. Use Github Desktop ir similar to easily see what files were created or edited.
