Passenger ships showing as cargo ships, won't ship goods
Both the Klondike and the Schaffhausen are shown as cargo ships with cargo type "all". They do not act as cargo ships.

They default to passenger as cargo type (they can be passenger or cargo). Once it completes a full loop of the route and you have your harbor supplied correctly it will automatically start hauling whatever is in demand on the route

Presume you have a cargo port - not passenger (sorry to state the obvious). And are the ships fully committed for passengers before going to the cargo collection ?

Yeah. Something else must be broken, either in the game or my line. I have a farm with a cargo station hauling to a dock with cargo station shipping to another dock that has catch with with cargo rail station built right against the food factory.

I've got modular Docks with both Passenger Landings and Freight Landings, when I set up my lines and run my ships, they'll only pick up and move freight, they will never transport any passengers, nor do any passengers ever seem to arrive at the ports. I've made sure in my line manager that the ships visit the freight and passenger landings at a station before moving down the line to the next one, so don't know why I'm not getting any passengers using the ships.

Also note if you are picking up passengers on the same ship these will switch the cargo type to passengers and therefore stop the ability to collect cargo en route. I think these is compartmental from memory, sorry not in game atm.

Iron Ore works fine on the Schaffhausen, Coal doesn´t. Seems like there is a little bug in the code ;)

Are you sure the Iron Ore isn't using all the compartments as even a partially loaded compartment stops you loading.

For instance if a ship has a capacity of 100 and 2 compartments, there would be an allocation of 50 to each compartment. As soon as you load 51 ore you won't be able to load any coal even though technically you might think you have 49 capacity left. This is realistic as you wouldn't mix goods in that way in real life.

Hope that makes sense and you can check this isn't happening to you.

@Furley,
Regarding your farm and your shipping dock, in Line Management, you can decide for each line what to load and what to unload.

So I'm not sure if my problem is the same as the OP, but on my most recently created shipping route, I'm having a problem with the Rigi. They are being sent to a cargo dock, with coal waiting, to pick up coal (specified in the manager to ONLY pick up coal). They load one compartment to full with coal, so 35 units. Then leave with the other compartment empty. I've tried setting to full load any, full load all and just plain load whatever you want. In all cases there's like 300 coal sitting there and they only ever pick up 35. The other compartment is set to passengers, as is default out of the shipyard, and remains completely empty. This is what made me think it may be related to this thread.

I tried this with the other "any" cargo ship available in 1860, i forget the name. It's slower, but at least it turns out it will pick up all 70 coal it can carry! I take this as an indicator that my line is set correctly, there must be a problem with the ships?

It was the line for me. It didn't like the hop from the dock -> cargo train station -> food factory. I actually had to haul from the receiving dock to the factory.

Rigi can only take coal in one compartment due to a bug in the code FWIW

When you have multiple ports in 1 port, you have to make sure you click on the correct picture box on the port when adding it to the line. Do not just click on the port. If you want it to pick up cargo, click on the box box. If you want passengers, click on the person box.

I'm necroing this, because even if the ships have 2 compartments they either won't load cargo or really need one loop of the route which could be a looong run. This still is an issue.

I can't get the Klondike ship to carry both passengers and cargo at the same time.

I am visiting both passenger and cargo ports at each end. (I've given them good names and am not confusing one for the other)

The rest of the supply chain works; that is, cargo is produced, moved, and loaded on the cargo dock. So the overall game logic thinks the ship can and is carrying cargo. It just doesn't.

It refuses to load cargo if there are already passengers on board. Passengers, meanwhile, only ever occupy one of the two compartments.

It appears as if the ship only carries either a single compartment of passengers, or up to two compartments of cargo. This makes it useless as anything else than a dedicate freight vessel.

If I replace the Klondike with something like a Shaffhausen, everything starts to just work, no changes. So the Klondike specifically is borked.
