I honestly prefer TF2 way. I can easily create a 2nd line really quick, and it stops trains from running empty 1 way, with proper planning.
To also be able to edit the line at the terminal, per car would be nice, but very cumbersome.
You can not build a train which collects iron and coal. How is that an improvement?
Of course a train can carry more than just one good. It depends the cargo types each wagon can carry.
If a wagon has only one compartment, it can only carry one type. But the next wagon can carry another type.
If a wagon got multiple compartments, it can carry multiple types.
Simple as that.
At the time this post was created, this wasn't in the game. So what's your point? Necro a thread just to show you know the game?
