Maintenance repairs and maintains vehicles so you don't need to auto-replace.
Use search?

I think he is maybe asking for Dev's to add it back in game, or looking for someone that knows how mod the game, make the fix for him.
Its not a workaround. It's how it is.
Maintenance repairs vehicles and keeps them.. erm.. maintained. They don't wear out.
It also reduces emissions. Bonus for city growth.
Auto-replace is redundant.
You had to auto-replace in TPF1 because there was no alternative.
When a vehicle was no longer available, you had to reconfigure that for each and every line.
If you want to replace vehicles, such as to upgrade them, you can now do it so much easier and in mass quantities, especially if you name your lines. i.e search in vehicle manager for lines named [BUS] Select all lines (yes all) and all vehicles can be replaced on all lines. Its about 4 clicks. Try doing that in TPF1, its about 400 clicks.
Almost every topic on it has this information, detailing why there is no auto-replace and why its not needed at all.
What would it achieve, having it present, that's not already within easy reach?
Actually, I think this change is one of the better changes to the game. Auto-replace was a bit stupid. It was added part way through to solve a micro-management problem that sparked complaints.
Agree, its not clear. A lot of the game suffers that.
But the first maintenance step means you don't ever get those notifications and the vehicles never drop below 50% (iirc) and you can apply maintenance to EVERY vehicle in your fleet in 3 clicks. Select first line, Go to last and Shift Click to select ALL lines. Then set maintenance.
I was snappy above, I apologise. Bad day.
Plus if ALL you have to do is increase maintanance and vehicles will stay prestine FOREVER, what is the point of that option? Why not all of them just come out of the box with high maintanance?
What kind of option is that? What kind of game design is that?
Same with emissions. ALL I can do to stop emissions is put electric trains. If I don't have them I can't do anything. If I have them I will obviously use them.
A lot of things aren't very well thought out, imo.
No you don't have to apply maintenance at the start, the vehicles will wear down naturally and you can apply it to the line when needed, when the notifications come through, quicker than setting up auto-replace. Auto-replace needed re-configuring each time a vehicle was no longer available, so it was unreliable anyway. In 2050 when there are no new vehicles, auto-replace was ok then, but you likely have billions, so maintenance makes just as much sense.
You were not snappy and thanks for helping, but I still think OPTIONS in game exist when you actually have an option. In this case there are no options. Who wants to replace a train every 7 years? Of course is a lot more expensive than increase maintenance, so its not really a player decision is it? Why have it then?
What is the difference between 125% and 150% maintenance?
Why 100% is called NORMAL maintenance and even 100% ? For me 100% maintenance is good enough. Should be 50% maintenance, 100% maintenance. Or even remove that at all. Forever we will have new players asking for auto replacement because this was horribly designed.
I think they should keep all the improvement as well as add in an auto replace. Yes, the maintenance is nice and good, but I'd rather not end up with a 150 year old truck. (Yes I'm talking about they year 2150.) Realistically, vehicle maintenance is not going to prolong the life of a vehicle indefinitely. At some point, you're going to have to replace it. Auto replacement is something that is for after maintenance has doubled or tripled the life span of the vehicle.
