A neat trick for planning track and road routes.

Just a simple little trick I've started using for helping me plan the routes for long sections of track or roads.

Just use the paint tool on a narrow setting to paint the route you want the track to follow onto the map and then when you zoom in to deal with the slopes and other intricacies you can easily see the route you want your track or road to follow.

It also works nicely when trying to merge or avoid tracks and roads as you can mark the route between or around the elements you want to reach or avoid.

Once finished a simple sweep with the Erase Tool will remove all the painted lines.

I'll have to keep that in mind. I could see how that could be useful at times.

It's a great help when you are creating a long stretch of track or road,m but you need to do it small sections to avoid steep slopes and the like, such as the high speed rail lines in the Liberated Markets mission. You can zoom out paint in the route at a distance and then zoom in to do the building knowing exactly where the optimum route is you need to stick to.

Nimby rails has the best track building engine that I have come across. Stations and tracks are laid in "blueprint" mode, and can be moved, resized, re-laid etc before actually building them. This is great for trying different routes, and making sure that curves are smooth and full speed, and for getting all those little kinks out of the tracks.

It would be fantastic if TPF2 could do something similar.
