Clone a Line?
Is it my old-age...or did we once have the ability to clone a line?

For example...after my map has developed, I always find a need to have multiple trucks hauling oil to the refinery. One line with several trucks works...but sometimes they may backup while waiting to be loaded/unloaded.

A separate line allows you to assign separate docks for loading...or unloading. Cloning a line would maintain all that route's settings, which can sometimes be complex. Then that new line can be re-named and it's unloading/loading location can be easily edited to a different dock number.

Or can we already do that and I missed that button? Smiles.

No I don't think you ever could . It also won't work as the goods will prefer one line over the other assuming they are set to haul the same stuff.

You are probably thinking of Mashinky perhaps?

You can clone vehicles (that's working okay now) but not a line!.

I will add that feature to my wish list then...thanks.

I would love yo duplicate lines.
Having at least 8 goods delivery stops per city with mutilple resources can be a pain to setup manually.

I'm always interested in how other people set up their lines. Do you set up a different truck line for each resource within a city but have them all travel on the same path? I'm sure I'm missing something. But to me it seems like a lot of extra work with little or no gain.

Part of the reason I ask is that I usually just use one truck line for the entire city. It works fine at first. But once a city reaches a certain size, the line usually gets bogged down by traffic. So I'm looking for something better.

(Note: Since the developers added the ability to use multiple platforms on a single line. I realize that the original poster's comment no longer applies. And we no longer need to use multiple lines to get multiple platforms.)

You can't clone a line.

On the other hand, you don't need to clone a line to achieve greater throughput.

You can have a single line service alternate platforms, so that trucks have two (or even more) platforms to choose from when they arrive at the loading station, and will choose the one with the least amount of traffic.

The feature is called "alternative terminals":

https://www.transportfever2.com/wiki/doku.php?id=gamemanual:linesvehicles#alternative_terminals

For trucks there are no major issues to be aware of. For train stations you need to know one very important thing if you want to set up alternative terminals:

There needs to be a signal behind which you can reach every terminal (including the alternative ones) without any further signals.

In the prototypical case, have one signal guard at the entry to the station. Place the switch leading to the two (or three etc) platforms after having passed this signal. Have no further switches between this one and the platforms.

(This saves you a lot of problems that generate lots of questions. But it only applies to trains, not trucks)
