How do I make a 4 Wat Crossing?
I want to make a 4 way crossing so that I a training come in from one direction (say North) can go to any of the other three (South, East or West).

I am not sure how to build it without causing traffic jams.
Could someone show me how?

You could use this. Either directly as a mod or as a guide to do it yourself.

A simpler and much more realistic junction would be to cross the two main lines, grade separating them, and provide access slip tracks on each corner, and crossover switches just behind it.

Yes, capacity and frequency will be smaller than a fully grade separated junction like the interchange above. You can always grade separate specific directions later according to your needs.

A cloverleaf interchange is pretty unrealistic for railroad. If you really needed a full four-way free-flow interchange it's more likely you'd see something like back-to-back freeflow wye interchanges, which would look something like this:

or perhaps some variation on a stack interchange with the overpasses/underpasses spaced out to keep the grades within the interchange low.

More plausibly, you'd do some form of traffic and cost-benefit analysis and either add tracks so that more trains can be in the junction at once (possibly also splitting some of the movements out from the 'main' lines some distance away from the actual junction) or set only the busiest part of the junction up for freeflow. For example:

The lower line and all right turns in the screenshot are freeflow while the upper line has a universal crossover in the middle to allow the left turns to occur; no crossovers are required for the junction on the lower line.

It also bears mentioning that you don't always need to provide for all possible movements, and that eliminating movements that you don't need from your junctions can simplify things considerably.

Right now I'm only doing the campaigns so space is limited - all of these take up a lot of real estate was looking for something compact due to the space limitations.

But when not playing campaign, I will try all of the above, as they all look interesting.

"4 Wat Crossing"
Sounds cool but I don't know what it is.

Only a smart aleck comes in to make fun of a typo when it's spelled correctly in the body of the message.
Also, does it feel good to make fun of someone with a disability?

You can edit the title. As you can edit every post.

Edit:
Now I edited it out.
