My background is flashing :(
Hello,

Ever since the March 9th upgrade, my graphics have been screwed up making the game almost unplayable. The terrain when looking down will flash between normal color and white, making the entire screen essentially strobe. If i position the camera perfectly it doesn't flash, but obviously I need to move around to build and such. I also have epilepsy :/ so this makes this game unplayable for me and is v dangerous fml.

First make sure your operating system is up to date, then try turning off Terrain Tesselation:
  1. Go to your settings.lua file, found under /Steam/userdata/<your user ID>/1066780/local. As Huperspace points out, the easiest way to get there will usually be to open TpF2, go to Settings, Advanced Settings and press Open Userdata Folder.
  2. Search for 'terrainTesselationEnabled' using your text editor's Find tool. If it doesn't have a Find tool, scroll to the bottom of the document; you should now see a few lines that start with 'terrain' near the top--if not, scroll up a little.
  3. Set the one that says 'terrainTesselationEnabled' from 'true' to 'false' (without the quotes) and save the file.

I actually wasn't able to follow these directions. That's at least not how it's set up for me. when i get to a file location somewhat near where you stated, it mentions textures but no terrain tesselation. Do you have more specific instructions maybe?

terrainTesselation is just a few lines above the one that reads 'textureQuality,' at least for me. It should be easier to use the Find tool in your text editor to search for 'terrainTesselationEnabled,' sorry for not mentioning that sooner!

Once you find that line, change where it says 'true' to 'false' (without the quotes), the line should now read 'terrainTesselationEnabled = false,' (with a comma).

Sorry to be a bit thick but where do I find this file? In game settings or in steam settings. I've looked in both but no luck?

Even when I do a search for 'terraintesselationenabled' it says I have no results. That's probably why my terrain is messed up LMAO

Perhaps searching for 'terrain' in the text editor will yield better results. It found 'TerrainGenParams' first, the one we want is the second entry, by pressing 'Find' a second time or 'Find next.'

Right click on Transport Fever 2 (or any other game) on the left panel in library, go to Properties, go to Local Files, and click Browse.

You should now be in a file browse window. Go to the address bar and click on Steam, and navigate down to the location via the path I mentioned before, by double-clicking on userdata, <the file with a number for a name>, etc.

go to main menu settings -> advanced setting and at the bottom is the open userdata button.
if that doesn't work; https://www.transportfever2.com/wiki/doku.php?id=gamemanual:gamefilelocations
@ob1wG! much easier.

Although that doesn't work for me on Linux, this should not be out of my consideration, as that should work for most! :steamfacepalm: Sorry!

Maybe tell UG directly that this methode doesn't work on (your) Linux.

Thank you so much problem solved

ugh. i'm really struggling. I'm not seeing any of what you're both describing in my transport fever 2 location. I wish I could take screenshots for you. Is this my only solution?

Well we don't know but it's worth trying. UG is working on a bug fix for a graphics flicker issue, but I don't know if it's the same one you're experiencing. Trying this setting change might help, might not.

Maybe some screenshots will help you find it. Here is the location of the settings.lua file on my PC, but I don't use Steam. If you use Steam yours should be at /Steam/userdata/<your user ID>/1066780/local

Open that settings.lua file in Notepad or whatever and just search for "tess" to make it easy:

Change "true" to "false", save the file, and start the game.

Hope that helps.
