Line Manager Icon?

What is the main function of the small icon I tried to recreate below do? Its on the line manager next to the track icon where you select track numbers at depots. it looks like a small backwards "y":

If it's the one I think it is, you can set alternative platforms that the vehicles on that line will use at that station if their primary one is in use when they get there.

Note that for trains, this checks at the last signal before the platform... even if the signal is facing the opposite way.

Yes that's exactly it. It's also available at all other stations types (road, sea, air), and also for waypoints on multi-lane roads so you can choose the lane for your vehicles.

Ahhh, so when you click on the track icon to pick which platform/track to assign a train the little "y" icon is just a temp route for the train to use if that assigned platform already being used?

Yup that's right. It's handy for busy stations / ports.
