Alternative platforms not working
Hey, I decided to try out the new alternative platform feature and it doesn't seem to be working and I'm not sure why, it says it couldn't connect to all alternative terminals yet I dont see how that's possible, the other station has a single track and the only switch is that one you can see in the top right

I was able to get it working, not sure why but having a signal on the fork was what messed it up

I put signals on each track at the stations out of habit. Maybe try that? It's the only thing I see different from mine.
Edited this after testing.......
don't put the signal at the station, Put signals at the point of the Y. And if more than 2 tracks, put a signal at each split.

The train makes its decision at the final signal before the station as to which platform it's going to use. If you have signals after the switch for example to hold the train outside a platform it can only get to its primary choice from that signal.
Hope that helps.

I believe I figured it out. In some cases if you make the primary terminal anything other than T1 you get that error sometimes. So I make sure to change the primary to terminal 1 and then check mark the others to it.

That is purely based on how you designed it. Platform 1 does not need to be the primary at all. It does not even need to be one of the choices.

I have also seen this bug happen. As you can see in the pictures, all 4 platforms are connected; But because I wanted to have a 1 way in and 1 way out for each side, the secondary platforms can't seem to figure out the 1 way in.

One way in tracks with switches:

The platforms:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2807179125
And the whole setup:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2807179137
With all signals switched to '2 way':
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2807181730
And with 2 signals removed it finally works:

Signals are the problem, and something is bugged with even placing them on 'secondary platform selections'.

Did you see the comment about trains making their decision at the last signal before the station? That would be consistent with why your setup did not work until you removed the station-facing signals at the crossovers immediately outside of the platform - platforms 3 and 4 cannot be reached from the crossover outside of platforms 1 and 2.

And that would be why it's bugged.

Because it's not at all possible to have 1 way tracks in and out for alternative platforms. And seeing as how tracks have a limited turn rate, you can't really connect them all. Plus the fact that platforms can only have 1 'loading track' per. So yeah, it's a bug.

Edit:
Or in short:
Go for realistic, and it don't work.
Go for 'stupidity workaround', and it works fine.

All I know for sure. I had 3 terminals, one route defaulted to terminal 2. I clicked the boxes for 3 and 1 and it refuge to find a route to 1. So I told it to default to 1, and added the other 2 with no problems. Same thing at 2 other stations with shared routes. So.....you tell me......a bug or something? Since now i default to 1..no more problems.
Okay guys, what I figured out is that it is enough to put two-way signals between the station and the switch, facing away from the station and it will work.

The rest of the railway network indicates directions anyway, so this should not cause any issues with other lines.
This way the trains will always have a way to -leave- the station.

For some reason based on my experience, the issue is that two-way signals are not detected properly in alternative platform pathfinding when they point -towards- the station and this way trains cannot pass them and can't leave the station, no way is found outwards, therfore the alternative route is detected to be incomplete.

So far this is what I figured out.

I hope this helps!

Hi, replies #3 and #7 gave the correct info: all alternate platforms must be reachable from the last signal before the station.

If you place signals between that decision signal and the station it can mess it up. (And there's really no reason to ever put any there anyway.)
