Is there a way to auto replace or upgrade older vehicles? I had a lot of lines and going back to upgrade / replace them took a lot of 'not fun' time. I'd love some ideas..

select all, replace. the process is very quick. the best thing to do is relabel all the lines so that the start of the line contains the same vehicles, like PL for passenger line, INCIT for inner city etc (or however you like) then you can easily spot which lines have the same vehicles on them (that way you don't accidentally put a passenger vehicle on a cargo line)

Transport Fever used to have that feature...wherein the game would auto replace with a set criteria...dont know why the devs took it out...you now have to manually replace them...one of my biggest peeves...it seriously irritates

they replaced it with maintenance, once you have upgraded to the most recent vehicles, just increase the maintenance to very high and forget about it. the autoreplace before the last upgradeable vehicle was pointless in TpF1 as if you forgot about it it just kept replacing with older vehicles. it is not a feature i miss even slightly.

No there is no way to auto replace lines, you have to do this manually in the vehicle management screen. You can however replace an entire lines units at the same time instead of individually.

The reasons this system was removed are because it caused more problems than it fixed, especially if the vehicle had to make an extensive trip to return to a depot. It was replaced with the maintenance feature which enables to you effectively have a unit running forever (albeit for a increase in running costs) that doesnt increase with time. Further to that they added in the Emissions system which also plays a part into why this feature was lost. But the main reason was how the old replacement system and auto replace system could destroy entire networks because of units "going back to be replaced by newer ones" aswell as it not updating with the times, meaning that as stated in the previous post, if you didnt actively maintain this you could end up with a line auto replacing older less useful models which ended up being way more expensive in the long run due to their limitations compared to the newer ones, this also could mess with entire supply chains if two links on the chain end up replacing with different units. As i said it caused more issues than it really fixed, and the slight QoL change it gave was not worth keeping because of the issues that it brought about.

With the new maintenance system so I understand it correctly, if you vehicle is already in a poor condition it will not improve it so you will have to replace it and then improve the maintenance setting. Is that correct ?

no that is not correct. set the maintenance to very high and the condition of the vehicle will improve slowly until it is in the same condition as new
