You may need to restart the game for the change to take affect.
You cannot change the map size when loading a savegame.
I love your ambition, but the game won't like trying to support it.
I like to keep to a low cities count.

I will check it out. When I did change the line to true, it was in the file baseconfig, now it is not there. Maybe they move some other location. When the game updated ( two updated ago ) , that line was not there in the baseconfig. , before it was there. The only thing is there in the baseconfig is you can change the sandbox mode to true, the achievement with mod to true and the industries button to true, but not the experimental map size line ... in my base config file, unless it is move somewhere..
I found the file. First. I did not know you can access the setting directory and those files from the game. So it simply goes straight to : Steam/userdata/useridnumber/idgamenumber/local and the file setting.lua. Even you can check the "crash dump" sub-directory for any error dump file.
So a short cut.
Sorry that I was a bit confuse. So the game move from base.lua to setting.lua. That will explain.
I guess you still a few things to lean about the game even after over 1000 hours of play.
experimentalMapSizes = false,
I change the false to true but it swaps back i know I saved it im using notepad is that ok?
Did you make the change while the game was open? The game saves the settings file when it closes. So if you change the file while the game is open. The game changes it back to the original values when it closes.
As noted, do the change with the game not running.
