That being said - Maintenance only matters for stuff that goes through residential districts and even then it is very minor thing ( like -30% town growth, where you should reach +200% easily with all transport needs fulfilled ).
I'm hoping that the dev's will add an option to be able to set the maintenance default level rather than have to resort to a mod.

Yes 1/4 calendar to match 4 speed, so time does not go too fast.
Only 2-4 emission points more, it doesn't cost you money to use extremely old vehicles.
The old system was a lot more realistic.
Therefore it's the best to simply ignore the condition and drive with completely dirty trains :D
