BUG: uneven road crossings
When a dual rail line crosses a road, the surfaces become uneven, preventing a track cross-over (you know, dual points to change directions) close to the road.

I have experienced this several times now

The longstanding workaround for this even if only to avoid unsightly variations in track height caused by the crossing roughly meeting in the middle of any elevation difference between the road and tracks as been to build a bridge (or tunnel if more appropriate for the location) to get the road over your rails. This is even somewhat more prototypical than having lots of level crossings as crossing have long been recognised as a hazard and source of potential delays.

This is not a bug, it's a civil engineering problem which often don't go to plan IRL and they certainly don't in TF2.

1. Bulldoze the road temporarily
2. Bulldoze the existing track
3. Relay the track including points etc until so it's nice and flat and how you want it
4. Use terrain tools if necessary to do 3.
5. Relay the road to make the new level crossing - it should comply with the track levels and it might turn out OK.....
6. ...but if it doesn't build a bridge for the road

If you have trouble with bridges do you know about the "," and "." keys? They are especially important for building road bridges over tracks in tight situations.

thanks for the replies.
No. I'm new to this game But have played TTD for ages
what do the "." keys do please. (I love how undocumented this game is. learn by Osmosis)

And, from a coder with 25 years experience, I classify this as a bug because the users have to use work arounds

When building road or rails . and , raise or lower either the start or end point of the piece being built, which allows you to more precisely place bridges compared with using m and n to raise/lower the mid point of a piece being built.
You have to zoom in pretty close to see it but the pointer will change to show if you're building at a height other than the default ground level, usually 3 or 4 steps up is enough clearance to place a bridge, depending on exactly how whatever you're bridging sits relative to the terrain either side.

It probably helps if you realise the , and . keys are also the < and > keys.
