What to do if one bus stop in a city is overcrowded?
Hi,

In a city I have a bus route (Line 1) where neither stops really attracts any passenger. One stop however is overcrowded with hundreds of people. Basically, all want to go to the train station.

Now the problem is that the bus (or tram) is almost full when reaching the mentioned overcrowded stop, so not more than a handful of passengers can board here.

I've tried to set up a new line (Line 2) going only from this overcrowded stop and directly to the train station, but the passengers insist on using Line 1 (!).

I find this logic somewhat strange. Is it a bug? Am I doing something wrong perhaps?

You've done the right thing. It may be it takes the passengers some time to start using the new line. And the game probably doesn't have the logic necessary for individual civs waiting for a bus on one line to decide to switch to an alternative on the fly. They're probably locked into the initial line they're waiting for.

You could buy a batch of buses on the original line so they can clear the backlog and then sell them again. You get a decent price for selling a nearly new vehicle so it wouldn't cost that much.

Passengers won't change their initial route as long as it is aviable. If you want to force the people into recalculating the route, you have to temporary delete the busstop they are wayting at.

Yeah, the only solution to this (since the game sending ressources to a second line on the same station takes a long time, in my experience seldom works properly) is to send more busses onto the same line or, if you can, upgrade the ones you have to ones with more capacity.

Depending on the city layout you could also think if it is worth to build a kind of commuter rail station to have e.g. a Multi-Unit Train drive people from that small train station to your central trainstation.
