No Traffic?
I noticed that my towns have almost no privat car traffic. I'm currently in the 1980s and my biggest city (ca. 1000 inhabitants) has close to zero cars. In TF1, Traffic was much more. Why should I build the new roundabouts and such when I have no reason to use them?

Your Local public transport is very good.
That's why.

That's good to hear, but It wasn't very difficult and I don't even use that much verhicles. My cities look like ghost towns. I miss the crowded streets of Transport Fever 1

Add a few neighbouring adjacent towns using sandbox for an extra challenge, and change the initial target!

Traffic is much too easy in TF2, even in 2050 I don't have a single traffic jam.

I loved the traffic problems I got after 1980 in TF1, the planning of tram and truck lines not taken the main lines.

It does look like traffic has been severely nerfed. I guess that's 'cos sorting traffic in TF1 was a PITA for most people, requiring a lot of boring OTT detailed planning and effort mainly because there is no mechanism for vehicles to overtake/circumvent other stationary vehicles. Constant problems with delivery trucks getting held up or totally stuck, which of course in TF1 would cascade back to factory shutdowns etc. Nightmare. The secondary objection to this being it is totally unrealistic.

I guess they had to make a choice of either implementing some kind of overtaking system for road traffic or getting rid of the traffic altogether. I suspect they decided on the latter because the logic for handling overtaking etc would be far too CPU expensive to work properly without hammering the rest of the game unacceptably.

I think the game needs a setting or mod for people like me who like the traffic problems in this game.

But why did they invest so much work in creating all these new traffic lights ,roundabouts and highways if there is no reason to use them? Doesn't make sense to me really

I like TF 1 traffic way better than TF 2. Only thing it needed was to be able to allow faster cars and trucks to pass slower ones via lane switching.

There are uses for them, only you may not see those uses as much with the default settings.

Modding already exists for that, and even sandbox mode.

Goes to show you can't make every happy. I started a game in 2000 and by about 2005 All of those tiny country roads were parking lots. I put three lanes & still had same result.

Yup. I had one game where I was blocked up between towns (towns themselves were fine). Added 1-2 more busses cars went away. Couple years later bumper to bumper for the rest of the game

That's the difference with having 150 years and 0 years to plan roas layout. I did not have any traffic problems either when i started a game in 1850 and reached 2020.

For those who think traffic is non existant, try starting a game in 2000 and wait just 5 minutes.
