Main differences between tpf1 and tpf2?
Sorry if this has been asked before but I already have transport fever 1 and I'm on the fence about spending $30 on transport fever 2 if it's the same game with some better graphics and added features. What are the main reasons or selling points for upgrading to 2? Is it really that much better than 1? Also how is the FPS like? I remember in tpf1 i usually hovered from 30-40fps. Any help would be much appreciated.

Quite honestly, at this moment, it is not worth it. My opinion.

Around the same amount of content, the new features are thin and not well conceived. The performance is awful in comparison.

Win 8.1 i7 4790k 4ghz GTX 970 4GB 16GB DDR3 ram 1080p

Frames tank even on an empty map, laying tracks make me seasick with the juddering. I mean, a constant 30 would be nice, but no, I get anything between 17-60 (which I lock to). All for some shiny textures that you need to tone down anyway to get even a iota of better performance.

Being spiteful, I apologise especially on Christmas Day, but really the team behind TF2 need a damn stern talking to. Stick with TF1, it is miles better.

I originally refunded my pre-order but I re-purchased it (with same deal) because I caved in and am a fan of the genre. I'd say ask this again in 4-6 months time.

TF2 needs more stock content, the new features balanced and fixed, and the performance given some damn love before I would consider it in your shoes.

There are a lot of differences, it looks better, the stations are configurable, traffic lights, emissions are a thing, you can do maintenance on your vehicles, cargo airplanes, sandbox mode, map editor, the map preview before a game, Island maps, Asian vehicles, more, and better scenarios. Also I don't find performance terrible, but I think other people have a different Idea of what terrible is than I do.

I think you should be able to lay track in a railroad logistics game without getting seasick from the juddering.

I think the main differences are:

1. Financially the game has an easier start.
2. Factories will start production on connection regardless of demand up to a point.......
3. .....and are less swift to shut down production in the event of glitches in the supply chain....
4. .....which makes things a bit easier but they will shut down if you screw up long term
5. But cities are harder to grow.....
6. .....and only take two types of product each.....
7. ....which makes the mid-late game more difficult logistically
8. The new modular station system is a game changing addition .....
9. ....as is the Tropical type map, which is essentially an island/sea map, very different
10. There are a number of other more minor improvements, although some do not consider some of them them such at first sight.

For myself I would not dream of playing TF1 again now.

The biggest plus for me personally is the in game map generation and the ability to swap in and out of sandbox mode to make changes to a map I am playing in game. I am a long time fan of TPF1 (pre-purchased and played constantly). I pre-purchased TPF2 as well. It is now my new favourite. I have had one crash early on but has been stable ever since even before the patch. I binge played 15 hours solid, did not get to bed till 4a.m. that time (no crash).
The flexibility that allows me to create my own maps is by far worth the money to me personallyand one of my biggest wishes for TPF1. The excellent modding community is already hard at work expanding free, good quality, custom content as they did for TPF1. Yes the graphics do look better, the details are finer also a BIG plus the coastline/terrain is now terraformable!!! (I hated that fixed coastline in TPF1). You can extend land, or create rivers bay et cetera in the map you are playing. No more getting stuck with road and rail collisions against the waters edge (you can move it). Create whole islands too.
Also the modular stations and harbours are in my opinion FANTASTIC!. Being able to have Passenger and Cargo platforms and Buildings in one station and build them on or remove them in any combination is another big plus for me personally.

Agreed. This game, despite its flaws and issues, makes TF1 completely redundant. It's an improvement in almost every way.

Main differences.

1/ It's much more enjoyable.
2/ Modular stations which are great.
3/.. erm.. looks and sounds better.
4/ The core gameplay.. I dunno, still undecided on that.
5/ The ui is much better.
6/ Map generation is nice, but needs some improvement to be worthwhile.

Core gameplay: the gameplay's been made more accessible, with less confusing rules and systems in place, but at at the cost of some realism. Convenience now dominates. For the most part, it works pretty well but it's not perfect. I'd personally say the modular stations need a lot of work too, upgrading them can be an absolute chore for example.

The maps also need to generate quicker, with more control over the whats and the hows and the wheres. Larger map sizes would also be nice, at the player's risk. I've been waiting for years to play on a 1024km² map.

There is a mod now that allows cities to use all 6 industries (another mod to add more again) so if this may be a deciding factor, know that there are now options.

Thinks perhaps there is something wrong with your system. I have none of those problems. I have a slightly better CPU and GPU with the same amount of RAM and I am stuck mid game, 90 hrs, on 60fps in any and every situation.

The crashes, the cargo system, the graphics!.
