My engine won't go over 50 kph?
I just noticed that my Russian loco which is rated at 64 kph with over 300 power won't go over a hard cap of 50 kph on long, flat, straight track, either loaded or unloaded with 8 gondolas. The year is 1887 and I'm playing on the Sri Lanka map.

What have I missed in explaining why this loco which should be able to go much faster is evidently limited by a 50 kph cap?

Thanks.

Also no loco will take wagons faster than they can travel.

Thanks for the quick answers. It seems kind of pointless then to have faster engines before that time.

Lemme check that too.

It's limited by track speed... highspeed track isn't yet available (in 1887).
"Regular" track can accommodate up to 120 km/h. The OP's issue is the freight car maximum speed.

Cargo wagons and passenger carriages often have different max speeds. You'll find that often one allows higher max speeds than your fastest engine while the other is slow enough to make a lot of otherwise great engines a waste of money. Which is which changes over time, and new engines come in a lot more often than new wagons and carriages do.

It was the wagon speed limit. Thanks for the help.

Other than the maps, I'm not a big fan of most mods in most games.

Your early cargo wagons are maxed at 50 kph.

They have higher power and tractive effort ratings. Also, the passenger wagons are closer to the locomotive speed.

Actuyally it CAN be better as other properties of a faster loco may boost profits. Eg faster acceleration or better on incline.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Canophone ;)
