Creating custom map with heightmap.png and map.lua
I am thinking to make a custom map in the same way as TpF1.
I followed the guide in this website [www.transportfever.com].

I added heightmap.png and map.lua in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Transport Fever 2\maps\MAPNAME but it doesn't appear on the Map Editor > Load Map menu.

Since the newly added method to create new cities and industries is a bit troublesome for me, I am trying to edit the lua code by GIS software.

TpF2 does a little different from TpF1. You just need the grayscale heightmap, and to import it into the map editor now after loading the initial map.

hey, any chance you could help me with the heightmap thing? I'm trying to upload a greyscale heightmap I found online, it was originally for open ttd so it has rigid layers rather than a smooth transition, but I want to try messing with it. it is the third map in this old forum. https://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=54192
i got an error saying it needed to be in greyscale, so I ran it throgh a greyscale converting tool online just to be safe, but it's still no good. any suggestions?

I found out this tool to be very useful for converting *.png files to greyscale.

Also, you can use this tool to get real world heightmaps. Just make sure to use the tool above to convert you heightmap after downloading it.
