Problem finding and using the'console'. (Windows 10)

I cannot open the 'console' with the key mapped to 'open the console', nothing happens when I press the key (in game). I am running Windows 10 on a reasonably good spec PC.
Can anyone help?

then set another key. '^' it's with qwertz keyboard layout. you may need debug mode activated.

I've tried mapping different keys and also activated 'debug' mode'. Still nothing happens!
I was trying to find why I cannot use custom tracks in the rail stations, this was supposed to be fixed in the latest upgrade. When I try to insert them I get an error message referring me to the the 'console' that I cannot access.

@Norfolk_Chris, have exactly the same issue. However, I think the patch just fixed the issue whereby the game crashed if you deleted any station modules. From other postings it seems we have to wait for the mod creators to update their mods before they can be used in stations

Yeah like Chris said, I also have debug mode on, just doesn't show for me whatever I try

The tilde default key (next to 1) worked for me without doing anything (I already had debug mode on before the update). It's actually ` on this layout and not ~

Restarting the game after I had closed the game and exited Steam, the console now works with debug mode on. (I had mapped it 'c', for console).
All I need to know now is how to use the console.

I'll post here. it's same problem with console opening, however I have no "vanilla" trainstations (passenger and cargo as well) in game. only notification "INTERNAL PROBLEM - OPEN CONSOLE FOR DETAILS". but no console opens whatsoever.
