Absolutely. If you love trains, transportation, then you will love it. Just be cautious, the system requirements is a bit high, but you can lower some settings, if it runs slowly. The campaign is also great, and the graphics are beautiful. I've not played the first game for long, but I like the gameplay too, it's a bit different from the first game, as I've heard, but you can learn the basics easily, especially, if you play the campaign.
Now it's on sale, and I think it's worth the price.

<20$ yes
Wait until summer sale or get tpf 1 very cheap.
Tpf 1 is more optimized and has more gameplay.
Tpf 2 will be worth it in about half a year - 1 year. It‘s still unfinished and more a beta (laggs at mid game, gpu not properly used but never >30fps). Tpf 2 looks better but that‘s it. It is worse in every other category.

If you want a tycoon game, no.
If you want a digital model train set, yes.
If you want a rail network simulator, maybe.

Personal opinions of course.

Worth it to you?
"We" can't know that.
Watch some youtubes and decide for yourself.

Worth it to me? Heck yea!

ATM Transport Fever 1 is still the better game, TPF2 has more potential but really needs mods or patches to improve the game over time (they did in TPF1), also TPF2 looks nicer than TPF1.

What if I want a Tycoon game? Besides OpenTTD, Railway Empire and Railroad Tycoon series

It depend completely upon how you prefer to play these kind of games. What do you expect of the game to be able to do? What do you you look for in a game like this. Once you elaborate on this, we can answer your question more accurate, than merely reflect our subjective option, and our own impression and experiences with personal priorities and preferences. For this, you can read the reviews... ;)

(You forgot Railroad Corporation.)
You're SOL. All those aren't enough for you?

Then you have OpenTTD, Railway Empire and Railroad Tycoon.

Railway Empire isn't really much of a tycoon game, tbh. It's kinda in its own little world.

It's a bit too closed ended. If I had to describe it, I'd say it's a puzzle game with trains.

It's hard to say. In all these games I like developing an empire (that's why I also like Civilization) and tweaking parts to make profits.
OpenTTD was my first tycoon as a classic Transport Tycoon and I consider it as the best game in the genre with isometric, tile based graphics. I didn't really dig into Railway Tycoon 2.
Railway Tycoon 3, despite oversimplificated rail system, was a good game, because of dynamic economy based on supply demand.
Railway Empire is ok, but nothing special, pretty straightforward.
Now I'm playing TF2, nearly end of campaign. Playing campaign is enjoyable besides some weird tasks to do. I haven't played free mode yet, which I think will be core gameplay with some mods to improve here and there. I consider TF2 as a successor to OpenTTD, because of variety of transports (unlike just trains in other games). Also, just like in RT3, I have to consider which vehicles should I use, because in OpenTTD and Railway Empire I could just use the newest ones all the time. IMHO this game is the best so far.

All these games I enjoy for some time, but then it becomes repetitive and I'm getting bored. Which I'm afraid it would happen also with TF2. I'm not really a creative guy into a beauty of creation, so I got bored rather quickly with Planet Coaster, despite having massive amount of options to beautify my park, but economy part of it was so simple that it didn't catch me for long.

I didn't forget, I haven't played it yet. What's a selling point of Railway Corporation over other games that I've mention? Maybe it's worth a try :)

What is SOL?

I agree. I'd say the same about Machinsky based on some YT game plays. I haven't played it though.
