In TF 1 this was a great way to increase the throughput of a line, especially on lines with a lot of trucks or trains. I haven't felt the need to do this in TF2, since the amount of goods you have to get to towns is now greatly reduced, but I have mucked about and it does still work. The game will put stuff to transport on both platforms. You simply add station A, then B, then A and then B.
On a side note, please excuse my lack of crossovers. I don't use diamond crossovers at train stations because they are not that common in the real world due to expense and are only used when absolutely necessary, so I avoid them in the game.
(I never use crossovers either.)
I only had this setup once so far but used two separate lines so I could quickly setup alternating platform usage. Much prefer your option if it can work the same though.
