Looking for a good 1:1 scale map
I believe that I have looked at every map on the workshop, but maybe I've missed some gems. Any decent 1:1 scale (or even 1:2 scale) maps out there, preferably German or the USA? Please recommend some if you know of any. I like to recreate real world railways.

Hey Sebastian,
I think this one might fit your needs. There may be others, I just don't know them yet.

Thanks, I'll check it out, but I fear that's too much for my PC.

A 1:1 scale is hard given the size of the maps. Even if you went with a megalomaniac sized map you wouldn't even be able to include one real life mountain on the map like Mt Rainier. A 24kmx24km map (the size of a megalomaniac map) would only fit the top half of the mountain. Though if mountain features on the map aren't important to you than maybe it wouldn't matter so much.

I am not bothered about mountains. 24 x 24 km, or even smaller is plenty of real life space to build an awesome railway layout based on real life locations.

Like I said, I can live with 1:2 scale, but many of the maps are more like 1:50 unfortunately.

I tried my hand at a 1:1 map of the area of Hope, B.C., where I live. The terrain worked out fairly well but the elevation scaling ended up being off for some reason, i.e. Mt Hope ended up being only around 1300m instead of 1800m tall, and I seem to be terrible at texturing the map to make it look nicer. The water levels are also tricky since a river's water level is always changing but the game does not support varying water levels. Elevated lakes are out of the question.

Elevated lakes capable of supporting water traffic are out of the question; elevated lakes themselves are not, but you'd either have to paint them in somehow (e.g. with the game's built in dirty water texture, though I think that's more suited to roadside puddles or minor floods and doesn't look very good when used on a large area), in which case they can be built over without using bridges, or use a custom asset, which you'd pretty much have to create for the purpose.

Thanks. I took a look and it's not bad, but the scale is not quite there. It's more like 1:3. But, having said that, there are some interesting junctions in that area so I'll keep that map. Appreciate pointing this one out for me.

I have also found this one in the mean time. The scale is nearly spot on.

Thanks a lot mate.
I saw "Kartengröße: groß, 1x1" in the description :/

I am currently a bit stuck anyway after finding out that the game insists on building skyscrapers at around 600 population, which is destroying the look of my small towns and villages. I am considering how to fight against this.

You are following that thread I assume?

Maybe that a solution could simply to remove them from the game. [Scracthing my beard]
