A possible solution for not starting TF2 (Arch Linux updated 2019-12-19)
Today, after updating my Arch Linux and updating TF2 the game crashed immediately. The error was "EFT_Texture_compression_s3tc not available".

After looking into the log I got the following errors:

libGL error: MESA-LOADER: failed to open radeonsi (search paths /usr/lib/dri) libGL error: failed to load driver: radeonsi libGL error: MESA-LOADER: failed to open radeonsi (search paths /usr/lib/dri) libGL error: failed to load driver: radeonsi libGL error: MESA-LOADER: failed to open swrast (search paths /usr/lib/dri) libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

Seems that some libraries have updated on my system.

Solution: In the TF2 game folder are two libraries libstdc++.so.6.0.25 and libstdc++.so.6. I backed up and removed them and the game started.

Is this only for Linux or do these files (or similar ones) exist on other systems?
Vantskruv Dec 22, 2019 @ 12:16am
Only for Linux.

Okay, thank you! Verifying game files on my WIndows system atleast allowed it to load a campaign mission. Crashes shortly after, and textures do not appear as good of quality even though my settings have not changed.

Thanks that worked too for Ubuntu 19.10. I doubt the issue was introduced with distribution update. For me the problem started with update of the game at 19.12.2019.

Should be pinned. Thx for analysing the issue.
