DEVs Can we have option to change location of User Save Data?
Okay on my PC, I don't have Steam installed on the same hard drive as my Windows OS, nor do I have games installed on my Windows drive, and nor do I keep my documents/data/game saves for anything stored on my Windows drive.

So why does Transport Fever 2 default and insist on creating a folder on my Windows drive for Steam/UserData/Number/1066780 for all the game's saved data, maps, screenshots, videos, settings?

Can we not have an option to move this folder and have it somewhere else on our PC? I'd ideally like to put the saved data folder in the same folder as all my other games saved data on it's own drive, or at worse have the saved data for the game on the same drive the game is installed on.

I only have about 20GB of free space on my OS Drive, and this game uses almost 60MB for every save file and autosave. If I start playing multiple saves, it's going to eat through my space.

This is not default Steam behavior. You obviously doing something wrong. Or you are not telling whole story.

By default it will save in the folder where Steam is installed.

Its saving the game data to C:\Steam/UserData/Number/1066780 which is the only other game doing this on my entire PC.

Most of my Games are installed on D:\Games\steamapps\common or G:\Games\steamapps\common or H:\Games\steamapps\common as these are all physical SSDs inside my PC.

My Nomal My Documents,My Games, Downloads, Music, Videos etc etc information is stored on an E: Drive on mt PC. Which is another SSD on my PC.

I have two further SSDs connected to a HUB I use when doing video editing and have all my other PC applications installed on..

C: Drive is literally just one of those small M2 card things on my motherboard to install windows on. So no idea why this one games wants to install on to it.

What is your Steam installation folder?
Lezren Dec 11, 2019 @ 7:43am
Just create a Symlink to whichever folder you want on whichever drive you want...

And reticulate the splines, just to be sure.

Does Windows support symlinks between different drives?

Tried to make a Symlink, but each time the Administrative Command Prompt tells me that these files or folder can't be moved to another drive.

You only making things worse. And you didn't answer - what is your Steam installation folder?
cwattyeso Dec 11, 2019 @ 8:44am
Steam installation folder is D:\Steam

Maybe not directly in the Windows Explorer, but the underlying NTFS does and offers a lot of different options to link various locations together. It might require an additional tool or driver to make these available in the Explorer. I use the "Hard Link Shell Extension".

Another very weird technical decision in this game, along with always-on VSYNC :)

@TE

I do it the same way.

OS = C
Games = D
Documents = E
Gamelauncher all = E

my savegames from TF2 are all saved where the launcher is so on E

works as intended, you must have set something wrong in Steam?

Only thing I can think of is when I first built this PC and installed Windows and Stuff I did accidentally install Steam onto the C: Drive, I remembered to change the folder name, but not which drive it installed on. When I spotted the mistake I re-installed it to the D: Drive where my games are also installed. As the D drive filled up I added an E drive and created a Steam Library on there, and then a G Drive and a H Drive followed after that. So perhaps maybe somewhere in my PC Registry something has remained from the first installation of Steam on the PC and Transport Fever is reacting to that. Literally there is nothing in the C:\Steam Folder apart from the userdata folder and the data for this game. Not a single other folder or file that's not TF2.

Open Registry Editor, I guess you know how to do it, then check what are paths in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\SteamExe
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\SteamPath
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Valve\Steam\InstallPath

Make sure there are d:, not c:. And in other paths, like this and etc.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\SourceModInstallPath

This issue is Steam related, not game related. And V-Sync can be turned off in config file.
