mountain map
I like to play on Mountain Maps. so i can build some challenging railways. But the map generator is not good at making realistc mountain maps witch valleys and so on, where you actually have to plan your routes. Does anyone have such a map ?
I´ve already searched the workshop but didnt find anything pleasing.

You can always use the map editor and build a map yourself to your liking.

Maybe even share it to the workshop for others to download?

I've used this terrain generator to generate maps with fairly impressive mountains

He is looking for maps were you need to build sharp curves and/or go alongside a mountian to over it. Basicly you need to wind your way though terrian for most of the map.

yes. you are right. the problem with most mountain maps and the higher peaks generator is that you get mountains but all the towns are still connected with flat paths.
so 90% of all roads and railways dont really need to go over a mountain or you need to watch the terrain when building

In one map I generated, I was surprised the generator build this mountain cliff-side road. Just out of sight to the left is one of the few Stone Quarries on the map. The height difference between it and only ConMat palnt is something like 200m or so, doing that by rail, would require you to adjust the route to be rather indirect unless you want the steepest of climbs just to transport the stone to the ConMat Plant, and yes, that cliff side road is the only way to get from this part of the map to the rest of the map.

As much as the Higher Peaks mod map not generate a map entirely made of mountainous terrain, in the real world you're typically going to find towns in areas that are easy to get to. Mining and other raw resource oriented towns being the exception, because the workers need somewhere to live after all.

I tried this map tonight and had a couple of failed starts. How do you get started on this map? I tried going with a rail line carrying tools but the line was too long and the elevation change killed me (1850, weak locomotives). Do you start out just running grain, logs and planks short-distance by road until you build up enough money? Or is this map just impossible starting in 1850 on hard difficulty?

thanks. Cascadia looks actually interesting. is there a way to start a custom map with Mods ?

Yes. Click the tiny + sign on the map selection screen.

I think Cascadia is what you're looking for. But be forewarned... it's HARD. Due to the location of towns and industries, combined with the terrain.

If you want something challenging and fun to play, but not excessively hard to start with, you could try my Pollino map, as already suggested above by Gönnhardt von der Vogelweide.

I made it specifically with the objective to have a balanced but challenging mountain map, with realistic towns and resources, and I'm interested in players opinions and suggestions, to create in the future more mountainous maps.

This map looks fantastic. I'll give it a shot later today.

Neldot, I'm loving the Pollino Railway map so far. I managed to get off to a profitable start in 1850 on hard difficulty. But the map definitely has many challenges ahead.
