How long is your longest train?
Title says it all, my longest profitable train is over 4500 feet long. 2 Locomotives, 80 cars.

"Profitable" is the key word.....

My longest is the max size of a cargo train station : 520 m. It is the defacto for a late 20th into the 21st century. If they are full both ways and they are running across the map, it will generated well above the $50 millions in profit.

In this picture, I dont have to many trains lines, but with a few trains per line that carry full both ways, really help to a very good profit .... well .... it help to get the $1 billion per year in profit.

I will willing to try that. If I got the production to fill up a train that is way longer that the station both ways.

Had just shy of 1km trains in TPF1, they were profitable but no idea the exact numbers.

Probably pretty well considering I was in the 20billion region.

You would have to be playing with certain mods to make such a thing work. The platforms just can't hold enough cargo for such a long train to work properly.

The platforms don't need to be able to handle enough cargo to fill the train. Several ways you can make over-length trains work without losing cargo to overcrowding at the station:
- Wait for full load at a station. As long as your train arrives before the station fills up, you're not losing cargo to overcrowding.
- Setting the route up so that the train loads at several stations rather than trying to load it all in a single stop. Iron Mine => Coal Mine => Steel Mill, for instance, or perhaps Iron Mine => Forest => Steel Mill => Saw Mill => Machines Factory.
- Setting the train up so that it carries one thing one way and something that fits in a different type of wagon the other way. Iron Mine + Saw Mill <=> Steel Mill + Forest, for instance, as long as your line does iron and logs but not planks or steel.

Now, obviously, running a long train with setups such as the above is unlikely to be as efficient as running dedicated lines with trains sized appropriately for a platform, but I suspect that someone who wants to run a really big train - at least by the game's standards - probably isn't that concerned about maximizing the efficiency of the line as long as it works and lets them have their really big train.

It was working good enough to earn me in the region of 86mil a year for a single line.

Main hub > regional hub > cities.

I'm looking into upgrading my infrastructure to support these huge trains, along with 10,000 feet compatibility. Main problem lies at the main hubs though. Truck Stations, even with mods, can't handle 2000 units of cargo being dropped off at once. Spreading helps though I think.

I'm earning close to 300 million a year, total worth at around 13 billion total.

My longest train that can work with the vanilla stations is 600m long, 520 capacity with the last "log/planks/steel" cars.

Currently have two 1km (1006m) long trains hauling 1026 logs to sawmill and then half as many planks (2:1 ratio) up hill with Big Boys. Always one arriving before the station overloads and leaves before other one shows up. Use a couple stations back to back to give appearance of longer station at all stops. Slightly overloads (max length) truck station at plank delivery, but trucks pick up quick enough to prevent any loss. Also several other routes running > 500m...I prefer fewer / bigger trains wherever possible.

I don't bild trains any longer than the longest station that I can build.
