Truck Loading Issue
Hi all,

First off, I have been playing this game for quite a while, so I understand the basics of making the right connection and ensuring the line is complete. But I am not able to figure out this particular issue (I think this is a bug).

At first, when I setup horse-drawn carriage routes (year 1850), they seems to be working fine. They go to the lumber mill pick up the raw materials, then head to factory and dump the raw materials.

This works fine until I reach a point, when there is too much raw materials available in the truck loading platform stop, the carriage seems to take, way too much time to load.

I could not understand this wait time. Mind you the cargo platform is full. I have modified the line so that the carriages load up fully and I have set the timer at 1 min. I figured that since the cargo platform is full, it should not take more than a minute to load and leave.

I am hereby attaching a screenshot for reference. Oh, and btw, I am playing this in Free mode.

So what am I missing? And before you ask, I have completed the logistics (Lumber Mill to Planks to Tools factory to delivery to city).

I tried changing the trucks (these are American Horse-drawn carriage) but same result.

Is anyone else facing the same problem? Let me know.

Thanks!

thats the auto spaceing mechanism, they wait to be evenly be spread out.

Never noticed long waiting time, but I always set the timer to indefinite, since I'm not sure if the timer counts ingame time or real time (and 1 minute real time would be very long...).

the timer is real time (12min is 1 ingame year on timespeed 1x and playspeed 1) and only active at any/full load setting. nothing to do with the spacing.

depending how long your line is and how many vehicles are there, the spacing mechanism can last up to 2 times the drive durration.

Your problem there is that as you add more cities, it needs more product thus more starts being produced.

you are producing more than you can transport

Setting the waiting time to anything at this point means nothing, has no effect..

adding more carriages at this time can in some circumstances work but not generally, usually its time to upgrade when this happens to a 5 carriage.

In the case of Logs to a Sawmill, the Sawmill has a demand/consumption of 400 units of logs. With the 1850's horse cart, I've barely managed to get a capacity/rate of 200-250 before adding more carts simply results in a lineup. With the 5-capacity truck, I can get to a rate/capacity of 300-350 units before more carts don't benefit. I think it takes the third truck upgrade before you can fully realize the output of a Forest to Sawmill line.

The game likes to auto-space vehicles up to a certain point, and has nothing to do with the wait time, which only applies if a vehicle is sitting waiting at a platform partially empty. Once frequency of a line gets good enough, vehicles will load and go, but loading/unloading of early game trucks is going to be the bottleneck, and the only way to increase the throughput is to setup an A1-B1-A2-B2 sort of back and forth line where the line alternates between multiple platforms, but you have to be prepared for horse carts getting in each others way, and if you're particularly unlucky, civilian traffic clogs the roads causing even more problems.

Good points... thanks for your suggestions. So I made some trial and error and found a method which kinda of solves the problem.

1. Make sure you have multiple platforms and if you are using more than 4 - 5 trucks distribute it to different platforms so that it doesn't clog.
2. Don't set the timer at 1 min interval. In fact, don't set the timer at all. I was surprised to find that when I removed the timer, the trucks seem to operate more quickly.

Also, I feel we need more functionality it terms of determining the route and more options to control how trucks enter the cargo platform and how they exit.
