How many industries vs how many towns vs map size.

Pick too much or too few of either and the game gotta put all that stuff somewhere.

Without knowing these settings there's no way to tell if game or self inflicted...

I figured it was the issue. Medium map, low cities & factories. I would've put less factories but game didn't let. I tried many maps, some maps had issues like this. This was one of the worst I've seen. About 10 or more factories "inside the city"

if islands are to small then the factories gets stick together.

It would be nice if the cities had some zone of control, nicer if we could actually set it so industries could only spawn outside a defined area.

I have sandbox on all the time now because of this. Industry placement has little logic to it at all. I also really dislike having a coal mine pop in the middle of town. Sand box lets me delete the offensive industry and relegate it to an area that makes way more sense.

Same with me. I dont like the game place industries over the place, and place a spagetti of a network try to get to the industries. And when I do place a industry, it better favor of a new train line that will give me a lots of income.

Nothing's better than a coal mine spawned next to your largest city and then the AI spawning residential buildings all round the mine :)

Yep.. that's why I don't use more than medium industry. Esp on tropical islands, where you have even less space.
