Truck loading docks on site.
Hi

One thing that kind of nit picky thing that bothers me in all most of these transport games is that you need to place a dock within range of the industry to get its resources. How do the resources get there? You can't drive them there with a fork lift. At least that is what the cop told me last time we tried to make a delivery to the factory on the opposite side of the road per fork lift.

So why not have loading docks on the site and have your truck load on site? The amount of loading docks could grow as the site grows. You'd still want truck loading stations for transferring items from one type of transportation to another and as distribution centers.

It would also be neat if an industry is big enough, you can approach them to have an on site railway station. As you can see in the ore/metal industry (some of the bigger sites have daily train traffic)

A bit in the same vain, it would be neat to have combined distribution centers. Have truck docks at cargo train stations. Have your docks be connectable to your rail network and such.

Tl; Dr: it would be neat to have more integrated distribution. No standalone station per transport type and goods teleporting between them or industries.

The images they've released so far definitely show mixed usage stations, e.g. a freight and passenger airport, a dock with trucks.

I'm hoping this is part of the promised 'modular stations'.

sounds like a good a good Idea.

Speaking of industries I hope they will be more dynamic and realistic in size because having huge sprawling Oil refineries that need long oil trains and gigantic steel mills that need lots of scrap and ore and trains to haul away fresh steel. plus car manufacturing plants would be great so I can haul car racks around on my railways.

Sounds like they will be dynamic (with what's said about the features), and some footage looks a little more realistic, but we can't be sure until we see more.

Related with what I found accessible from the site:
"Deliver raw materials and goods to drive the economy."
"Dynamic economy and city simulation"
"advanced, dynamically evolving economy and environments, town and traffic simulation systems."

This was already the case in transport fever 1. Industries would grow when being fed and their products being shipped out.

But you had to build depots next to the industries to pick up and deliver to them suggesting that you can deliver straight into the plants themselves and pick them up straight from the sites. No need for depots where goods teleport in between when they are within a certain radius.

Yes why not have Docks with a built in lorry depot, or a Airport with a built in bus station, or a railway station with a built in tram/bus station etc.

There's a mod that does this in TPF, I forget the name; "Integrated Depots" or something like that?

The problem with it, though, is that you can't see at an easy glance how many resources are waiting and ready for pickup like you can at a depot, making it difficult to quickly gauge whether you need more vehicles.

So if this idea does get carried through, that needs to be taken into account.

edit: Integrated rail & road stations is cool, too. I think there's been one or two mods that attempt this for TPF, but I never decided to try them.
