Thinking about it that is quite cheeky of the GameStar people as they state their transport costs were met by Urban games yet GameStar want to charge us.
Gamestar has gone a long way since I've read it, just like many other magazines, but making everything free is not going to help...
I'd advice to make up your own mind on release, as best as you still can...
Gamestar have yet to earn my respect as the only other review I have read of theirs was a while back and certainly was far too sparse in real content to justify paying for a subscription ... even if I could afford to pay one, which I cannot.
At this early stage many of us are eagerly waiting on news of the new game. They have been given early access to that and that access has been subsidised at least in part by the Publisher. As is reasonable. This should not make anyone question their journalistic integrity. If, however, Urban Games were paying them for an 'Advertorial' that would deserve more criticism, even if they did not charge readers.
imho, they have missed an opportunity to earn wider respect and expand their readership by having a wider readership actually read their article and be won over to their style of review, and encourage, rather than force, potential readers to pay a fee just to see IF their article justifies any fee whatsoever.
Right now they could probably get away with a list of features; a few screenshots and little real content as there is so little info available and we are hungry for such details. But imho expecting people to pay before even seeing if they have anything more than what has been already released is not justifiable.
If you have actually read their article perhaps you can tell us if there is any new info provided?
If UrbanGames did not want that article to be exclusive, and/or wanted an 'advertorial', they would've found (or maybe did find) a way for sure. (Not like I think they'd need it.)
Simply speaking, most games journalism relies on games advertisement in one way or another, even if a dev/pub doesn't pay for the aricle or adverts, they might do so in the future, or f.ex. not make such invitations.
GameStar is one of the few that retained some credibility to me, even though I'd wish they would be more critical and not partake in every hype, promoting steam sales etc., but some of that is requested by the audience now.
At least there is still a magazine and subsciption that directly makes them responsible to the audience.
As said, I have not subscribed or paid for the magazine in a rather long time. I prefer to make up my mind by playing the game or watching gameplay.
I'm pretty sure that necessary information can somehow be found and/or is/will be published. If you however value the opinion of GameStar, specifically Alexander Krützfeldt, then there is no better way than paying for it.

Sadly we live in an age where hype appears to be a 'good' thing to many.... perhaps as it usually introduces some buzz word or soundbite that is easier to remember as the 'hype market' seems to have difficulty understanding in depth articles and retaining anything but a few such soundbites. Maybe they like to keep to tiny content to fit in their Twitter droppings, or perhaps they just have the attention span of a Goldfish :)
Generally I have seen 2 genuine reasons for the different authorship of near identical content. I do not suggest that either of the following reflects the truth behind what you observed, but it might be ;)
1] The original author has a reputation of some merit for depth without needless hype and the second author has edited their main article.
2] That the authors are actually the same person but the more hyped version is substandard to their preferred image.
If I had the money I would happily subscribe to magazine content of quality, however, my days of such died out when my income reduced to subsistence level. I must thank those fellow players who have helped me keep my brain working in my older years by donating games. Were it not for one such kind heart [who asked to remain nameless] I probably would still be waiting for Transport Fever, and would have missed out on several thousand hours of aspirational viewing of videos let alone playing the game myself.
TF2 seems to promise a lot more than hype. Like you I will see how much is delivered when the game is available. Though I might need to wait longer. Urban Games have impressed me with their desire to upgrade their game rather than cash in by selling. It does appear they see the franchise as a labour of love. Perhaps that is what makes the key difference between Transport Fever and many others in the genre.
Also, these are always opinions and yours might differ.
I like some games journalists, but doubt remains. No need for trust if you can test for yourself. I'm rather confident that TpF2 will pass the test.
The question was rather redundant.
Most likely Alexander Krützfeldt went to visit alone and wrote the 'plus' article, while Natalie Schermann is probably a trainee, got the notes and compiled the summary. Saved him some time and gave her some exercise. It's just not very obvious for readers.
Again speculation, I didn't research (much) nor know either one.
Better don't rely on those kind hearts every time.
Some of us don't have an alternative option. Personally I have zero unaccounted for income. Like many others we have done our bit to provide economic growth and now in later years find the world tipping into a wider gap between the 'haves' and 'have nots'. Thankfully I do have a roof over my head and sufficient care provision. Whilst I can still use my brain I have yet to find a way of making money from that, that I can keep. Even that is sporadic as there are times I can't even play a game.
Perhaps I should add at this point that I am not asking for help from anyone. I was merely thanking those who have helped me and hoping they might see this post and know much I appreciate the help they have given. For every scrounger that calls out for help there are still genuine cases that may not ask. I encourage any of you that CAN help others to find those people and share a little of your success with them. Don't help ME as I wouldn't want to be labelled a scrounger and others may be in greater need. My Steam Library is full of great games mostly bought prior to my illness. I can always go back and chase Achievements in AoE for example. I don't actually NEED to load up the latest great version.
Hopefully it is something we can see as part of the choice of purchase and type of maintenance. It will be good to have the concerns of our age reflected in our play. Though we mostly play to escape much of those realities :)
I wouldn't know much about the reasoning behind GameStars payment method though.
It is in German anyway, so probably would need a translation which could ruin it for you.
I just don't see much reason to get upset about it.
We already got two development diaries covering much of what was mentioned in the summary. I'm pretty sure the next will come soon enough.
