Otherwise, bloom isn't very strong. Just blast him.
You'll probably find it easier if you make some friends in a playthrough or two, get the knowledge of the higher-level animals, and use that so that you can brute force it in a later playthrough.
Even though you're a dragon, the world is bigger and meaner than you are. Knowing when you're up against an overwhelming force and adapting your behaviour seems to be part of the ethos of the game (and I approve).
As for other methods such as using artifacts and finding useful allies, your ruthless aggressive fire drake might actually be more successful than my drake in certain cases as long as your drake can have mutual respect of others for their own strengths and uses. Remember that the perspectives of the different creatures/clans can be very different from humans and drakes while still displaying some similarities.
My drake who specialized in water and air dealt with Bloom effectively while using an artifact The Shakestick to make up for my lesser mastery of fire in the more difficult dances of destruction. If you want to know one way that physical prowess might be used to set things up for that battle then I can tell you what I think can work and I plan to do with my next more aggressive drake.
The clansingers seem to value shows of strength and honor. My battle with the den guard seemed to impress them as did sparing the pup and talking to the lone wolf. However trying to tell them why I did not wish to fight them at their feast failed with my mastery showing yellow for that option so perhaps they will value strength there as well.
