Loud sounds doesn't make your game scary
its more annoying than anything else. Sad to see these cheap jumps implemented in "HORROR-GAMES".

I definitely wouldn't recommend playing this with headphones, because the sound is kinda inconsistent. If you wanna hear the pretty neat atmospheric ambience, you have to put up with getting a massive earblast during the scares, and it kinda sucks.

You should inform Alfred Hitchcock and John carpenter because it sure works in Psycho and Halloween.
It's okay to let other people enjoy things you dislike.

It's cheap. Your game doesnt have to be dark or anything. It can be bright as day - a loud sound would also scare me.
Nothing original - just cheap. Great Artstyle tho ;)

If people enjoy cheap horror - thats fine. Enjoy your games folks ♥

Jumpscares are cheap. That's a bonus not a problem. Generally, a serial killer would attack you in a cheap way - hide in the dark, sneak up on you, take you by surprise. It's part of the genre. The shower scene in Psycho - the killer doesn't make his presence known to give her a chance, he violently ambushes in her with a knife in the shower. Same with Michael Myers. The fear comes from what is in the shadows waiting for the opportunity to attack when your guard is down.

Slow moving monsters coming at you is another type of horror. It doesn't personally scare me like an intelligent AI stalking you, but I enjoy those games for different reasons.

I never claimed the game was original.

A Serial Killer would scare me and suprise me. He suprised me so I'm scared and that automatically is good horror.
He doesn't come out of the bush with a megaphone and screaming in my ear so I'm scared. He gets me by suprise not by a loud sound.

Thats the difference ;)
A serial Killer is scary because he can kill you any second the feeling and suprises catches me.
A loud sound is just cheap and just a loud sound no matter the atmosphere.

Real life doesn't have a soundtrack either but you're not criticizing games that use music to set the mood. 99.9% of horror games do this. Psycho has screeching violins and Halloween has a blasting synth. Since you're not actually being grabbed and stabbed to death, the media uses other ways to simulate that, such as a jumpscare.

It's part of the genre. I get that you don't understand slasher horror but the vast majority of people naturally grasp these genre tropes without someone needing to explain what the intentions are and why it's effective.

This game has no screaming in your ear so you're inventing fake arguments against the game.

You're linking a game I made two years ago. Do you not comprehend this is an entirely different game? Would you go on the forum for Doom Eternal and start making arguments against it because you thought Doom 3 was boring?

All it takes is 30 seconds of research really.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying your game sucks or anything. If the majority likes your game I'm completely down for it.
Loud sounds aren't the definition of horror no matter how you protect your game or whatever. Its cheap and nothing of horror in any sort of way.

I deleted my comment by accident even though i only wanted to edit it... Here's the clip for everybody else:

Loud =/= Scary.
I really hope that your game is successfull because I dont want anyone to do "bad" in times of corona. I'm also not saying you don't deserve to be here on steam or whatever - you have a point.
In my perspective and in my personal opinion - stuff like this is cheap. You improved on that in this game by FAR - nontheless it exist and automatically gives me the feeling of not wanting to buy your game simply because its loud at certain points. Sorry.
If you ever do good horror (In my opinion of course) I'll gladly support you :-)
Puppet Combo Oct 26, 2020 @ 12:36pm
No one said loud sounds are the definition of horror, just that jump scares are part of the genre and I can give countless examples of it. Many are probably from movies and games that you do like.
At the end of the day, a person like you is impossible to please because you're going to hold games that came out years ago against me.
BigBossBalrog Oct 26, 2020 @ 12:42pm
You don't know what good horror is. You're comment is trash.

Explain to me why a horror devoloper who makes games that tens of thousands of people buy should listen to the opinion of a smug internet troll who hasn't made a single thing? Sounds to me like your jealous.

You are one though? You attacked the dev, you attacked the people playing it, and you attacked the game itself. A game which has a very positive rating on this platform.

Stop being a snowflake. Nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥ about what you have to say, unlike the Puppet Combo devoloper.
