I liked the BATIM sequel. It became more serious, both technically and gameplay-wise. The game strongly reminded me of Alien: Isolation, as the concept is quite similar. You also have to hide from ink monsters and the demon, upgrade your weapons and skills, read notes, and listen to audio recordings.

In my opinion, the story also got better, even if it doesn’t aim for an Oscar. The game’s style became darker and more detailed, yet still retains the same feel as the prequel. The horror aspect has finally improved. Throughout the game, I was scared by unexpected moments, this was executed well, even though the game doesn’t entirely focus on horror. The scariest moment for me was with “The Fourth”, you’ll understand what I mean once you play it.

I also want to touch on optimization. I’m surprised by how much time the developers put into optimizing the game, very few studios and companies do that, which is why many games lag. Here, everything runs perfectly, except for mirrors: if the game loads a mirror, it drops the FPS. But there’s no need to worry, they’re very rare in the game.

What I didn’t like was the achievement system. If you miss important collectibles for achievements in temporary locations, you’ll basically have to replay the entire game. The rest of the achievements were well-designed and give you a reason to keep playing.

If you’ve ever played Alien: Isolation and liked it, you’ll probably enjoy this game too. And if you only played Bendy and the Ink Machine, feel free to dive into the sequel! In the meantime, we’re waiting for the next part. See you in Bendy 3.
