New update & mods
Do people already know if any of the big popular mods (8 players, improved scoop, improved radar, etc.) are incompatible with the new update, given everything that changed?

Skip intro screen works
Deconstruct everything doesn't work.

Others untested for me.

Most of them don't seem to be. I want my improved scoop back! The scoop, "upgrade," makes it feel like I have to park next to the loot for it to be looted.

Played with friends and yeah:

Skip intro works
Deconstruct everything doesn't work
Improved scoop doesn't seem to work
Improved shield dunno, couldn't notice
8 player crew did not work (huge, huge letdown)

Hopefully the modders will fix this soon.

Such is life in the modding scene. Had similar experiences modding Lethal Company for example.
Just gotta have patience. Mods are great, but it's also good for the base game to improve and evolve.

I agree, but the 8player mod in particular dying means my entire friend group (we're 6 playing it) completely lost interest in the game until the mod gets fixed, since we can't play without leaving someone out now. It's kind of a bummer that they couldn't integrate the mod into the base game flat out, and it's giving me bad vibes that they aren't turning popular mods into in-game toggles rather than keeping us relying on third party mods and tools.

The developers have stated that they may integrate support for that once they get a bit further down the road. The issue for them is that there are only two ships right now, and they're for 1-3 and 2-4 players respectively.
From my perspective, it's pretty easy to get 5-6 people involved in the Destroyer, but not until you've gotten enough loot to do so. Other unfortunate bit about that is that looting seems to have gotten a significant nerf this update, which I'm hoping that the mods will help resolve.
It's a shame that the modding community is so small for this game at current. This game has been flying under a lot of peoples' radar which I feel has been artificially limiting its growth.

Yeah the game is definitely a sleeper hit.

Also one of the destroyers comes with 3 cannons, so out the gate you can already occupy 5 people (3 gunners 1 engineer 1 pilot). It's the one we usually use.

I want to clarify, looting itself hasn't gotten a nerf, the XP from looting has gotten a nerf.

download overwolf then download thunderstore mod manager, search for void crew in game select, select profile then click get mods and install the mods you want. click modded when you're done

I recommend going to Thunderstore.io and downloading R2Modman. Install that, then install the mods that you want.

I recommend avoiding Overwolf and Thunderstore mod manager. (bloatware)
game will get demolished at this rate, jumpship is coming, there are more games from the past that will just be better unless they do something about that

Do you know that the base game now supports 6 people? If there are 6 of you, there's no need to wait for the mod to be fixed.

Yeah, and if you go with the Broadside loadout (so the energy consumption of the weapons is managable), you can install a 4th weapon right at start (there's a Benediction crate on the shelf).
