There were many imbalances with the previous repair setup so devs reworked it a bit. In return for no repair plates, you can repair the ship to a much better extent (loose 20% hull, repair 18%, as apposed to the previous 20%:10%). I don't believe they want it to be possible for the ship to be repaired all the way.

Feels kinda ass without it, but will adjust eventually.

The effects of that plate are pretty much on the normal one now, so the normal one repairs significantly better than it did before and the way damage is applied to the ship also changed.

It pretty much got a major buff in the players favor. In my case, because I often play solo, the gold repair plate did nothing for me, because while I take damage at the usual rate, the amount of hull breaches I was get was heavily nerfed in solo. That meant that it was very difficult to actually get a major hull breach to spawn so I could use the repair plate at all.

Now that, was ass.

Supposedly it was rebalanced now so its both simpler than before while also making repairs much more feasible and useful.

Here’s the new system in simple terms (note: Numbers may change):

Every 11% damage the ship takes, you gain a Minor Breach.
Repairing a Minor Breach restores 10% hull, meaning a net loss of 1%.
If you already have two Minor Breaches, one escalates into a Major Breach.
Fixing a Major Breach restores 20% hull, but costs you 22% overall.

as in: for every 10% damage you take, you permanently lose 1%.
