Any tips for newbie?
OK so I do run sometimes with a friend but at times like today he's in the office so can't play so I run solo missions.

I have pretty much gotten use to piloting the ship in and out of the void and during actual game play including boosting and such but it's the rest of the ship I need to better figure out.

My main thing is how and what to fabricate to get the various upgrades specifically at first obviously better guns and such.

So what tips can you offer for a Newbie running solo. Mainly am using the smaller of the Lone Sentry ships while I sort of get the hang of things smaller ship less ship to have to run around.

Also any good mission suggestions that pay off well and can be handled solo without to much issue.

One other question also. I started out as a gunner with my friend and thats the class I have been upgrading. But hen I run solo I obviously have to pilot the ship. Does my gunner class bleed over to the brain guns when I am solo playing as pilot of how does this work and whats best class hen running solo to run as?

I usually focus hard on upgrading my guns as quickly as possible, and equipping them with Fire Rate and Damage Mods. For mission types, it is generally better to avoid anything that requires EVA. Sadly, the ingame mission descriptions aren't always accurate as to what requires EVA and what doesn't.

Salvage missions for example state they require EVA - they do not.
All you do is blow up floating cargo crates and scoop up the loot.

Until you have the skill points to quickly EVA, avoid DOWNLOAD and RAID missions.
You will spend too much time away from the ship.

Until you have upgraded weapons, I would also avoid AMBUSH (Freighter Ambush) and ESCORT missions. For Freighter Ambush, you will take a significant amount of damage trying to fight it. It's possible, but not a good trade-off in hull damage. Escort Missions require you to be fast and clear out enemies as quickly as possible before they start blowing up your allies, but with starter guns, it is very difficult to blow up Bombers before they get a chance to fire.

Skill Points wise, I have spec'd about 50/50 into Pilot and Scav.
This is what it looks like right now:

This loadout allows me to quickly EVA, while also having everything important in the pilot tree to have the best possible manuverability, speed, and long lasting boosts.
I personally also like to have the Scanning Specialist, as that allows me to scan faster and from much further away.

No, your gunner perks only work for the guns you are manning yourself.
If you are in the pilot seat, only your pilot related skills will apply.
Investing into Gunner when playing solo using AI guns is a waste.

OK thanks and yeah I just started as gunner with my friend as as something I could do at the time without having to learn much as we had 2 randoms with us and didn't want to mess things up to much. My friend understands as he's also new and the other guys were supportive but gunning was easy and let us get hat needed done done. I'll have to invest some in pilot skill for hen I run solo.

Thanks will have a look around and see hat I have.

Does it cost to respect skills like some games or is it free? If so is it in game currency or premium???

You can respec as much as you want.
Points spent can be refunded whenever.

Question for you as I noticed you have skills in various classes even though some classes show locked at the moment.

How is it I change classes without having to refund and respect all my points??

If I understand this right the A, B, C, D lets you have various load outs so I assume this is how the classes are specked without having to refund the points spent lets say for example in load out A

Ideally, you would use each of the 4 loadout slots for each of the abilities, though you will run out of space if you also want a solo build. There is no other way not needing to redo the entire build when you refund your ability skill point, as that removes everything else as well.

They should add a solo and a MP load out set up where you can spec for solo or MP without the need to change things!

Or just have custom loadouts that you can save without it being preset.

OK somehow I think am missing something. Using your image as the example

I noticed in this load out you have skill in each class given points.

Ho is it you change between the scavenger and Pilot for instance? When I am at the base console looking at my skills in save load out A I can't change to a different class in A ithout removing all the skill points out of in my case Gunner. I can add skill points to any class but it won't let me set say Pilot as my active class for load out A.

So how do you change to a different class in A without having to remove skill points?

I think this is my confusion as like I was saying earlier only way I can see to change to a different class is to either remove skill points in A and redistribute then in A or to have each class as the active one under each load out

A = Gunner
B = Pilot
C = Engineer
D = Scavenger

I would like to be able to swap classes under A without the hassle of re-specking things!

You can only have one active skill at a time, aka the very first skill point you have to spend.
Other than that, you are free to put your skill points in any of the skill trees regardless of your main ability.

I don't change between scav and pilot, I ONLY have the Scav Grapple, I don't have the Pilot Shield Ability. I can still spend skill points in other trees.

So there's no way at the base console to change classes before going into the match? meaning if I am using load out A and running gunner there is no way to change it before the match to load out A Pilot.

Sorry this parts just so confusing for a newbie
Sasha Mason Dec 30, 2024 @ 3:17pm
Oh that.
No, you have to be in the Hub to change classes or change skill points, you can't do it if you join a match that is already in progress.
