Why is our entire play session deleted when we go to main menu?
This needs to change beyond yesterday.

at the end of every jump there's an "Exit system" choice that acts as an end run button. If you choose that it ends your run and gives you rewards without being destroyed

That's all fine if everyone exits but not if it is just you as a single. And that is unacceptable.

This game is very similar to Sea of Thieves and Lethal Company in that you're meant to end the run whenever you want to exit the game.

The only meta progression we have after each run is our character level and our cosmetics.

So, I tested this.

Started a fresh game, ran one mission and jumped into the void, then exited to the main menu. I now have the experience and METEM reward box from that mission showing in my loadout screen.

It looks like the XP and rewards are retained, unless you are talking about something else?

That would be character level. But that only matters up to level 30, when you have the max number of skill points you can unlock.

After that, it's all just cosmetic loot boxes.

Yeah, it's not obvious that you keep all the rewards you participated in even if you leave the game. You do, though.

Rewards are handed out per mission, not per run.
You see the rewards pop up as soon as you enter the void tunnel, that's when you get them.
The end screen is just a visualization of everything you did and all the rewards you obtained.
Else imagine you play for 2-3 hours and your internet drops. It'd be insane game design to have wait until the end screen to hand out rewards.

no. it shows you what you WILL get once your run ends. it does not give it to you once you enter the tunnel. If it did, I would have received them. And a couple hours of run time were lost in this sense.

no exp was gained. no loot boxes were given, and no skill points were obtained.

That pretty much contradicts what others have said, who have observed the opposite being the case. I might have to go and test it myself.

You did receive them if you went main menu after jumping to the void. Mind you if you clicked main menu before exiting into the void after having completed the objective, then you won't get rewarded for that. You need to complete the mission and escape the system. But notice when you exit the system it shows you the box and exp? That's given to you immediately. If you want to test it, write down what boxes you have and your level, do 3 insane objective and then go main menu. the 3 insane objective will have given you 4500 so you'll have gone up a level and you'll have 3 more common box than when you started.

Hey, we're sorry about the issue!
We'll look into that, there has been another similar report like this in our Discord.

As some people mentioned, what you describe should not longer be the case, as we changed the way we hand our rewards some time ago, so you're no longer left with nothing if you need to leave the session early, or you get disconnected.
They are handed when you finish the objective, they are shown as granted in the next Void Tunnel, and the Score Screen sums up everything you've got in current session (but it is not what grants you the rewards).
