Yes. You cannot cross train. If you select pilot, you'll only get benefits for perks spent in that tree.

You can choose different roles between missions (as I understand it) so you can take other skills, but obviously its expensive to train in more than one and your progress is slower.

You can respec in-between missions for free.

You should be able to cross train, advanced as we are supposed to be cross training should be something you can do especially with small 2 man crews. Some skills are useless or situational and you should be able to create more complicated varied builds based on the skill system rather than be locked. I think it would provide a much better over all play experience to have mission based and situational builds when using less players. Not always will you have 4 hence why different sized ships. Honestly i prefer even with a 4 man crew to use the frigate for functionality. I would like to see up to 10 players available rather than locked at 4. I think to run a frigate properly ideally you should have 5 people. Pilot, gunner, scav and greasemonkey with additional gunner. for full potential. 4 is good but 5 better fully crewed ships of 4 with a eva specialist.

I've got gunner and pilot fully trained, just have to select the role and done. No more resets required!

Also have boots 3 on GM/engineer role because nothing else is worth getting...

And 1 point in everything for scavenger/EVA which makes it 75% effective already.

I'm almost always pilot though (and prefer it). Very good at it + directing the crew.


When I first started playing the game about a week ago, I leveled up fast to around 15 before I realized I had to lock in a given gene tree to receive the bonuses >< lol...
