Crew of 3. Worth it?
I have a crew of 3 dependable players. Are we going to struggle or will we do ok?

you'll be fine! once you learn the ropes and level a bit, if you need a engineer don't be afraid to add me!

I run a 3 man crew. The frigate is probably the best ship to run it with. We have done destroyer runs but it just feels a little too big to be truly comfortable. We have a dedicated pilot, a gunner, and then I roll both engineer and scavenger role simultaneously. They stay on the ship piloting and gunning, and I do all the maintenance, ship repairs, and external scavenging. We have had many good long successful runs. I'd honestly say that I feel like the frigate feels too small for four people and going up would be more destroyer territory. If we had four people right now in our current ship setup, I'd mostly be sitting around doing nothing sometimes. Having two guns to sit in and fire isn't always an option when you consider power draw of other things. After a while I do eventually get a gunner seat I can sit in and help take stuff out and I just have to get out of the seat and manage things sometimes. One person will definitely have a much more busy role than the others. I really enjoy my busy role and they enjoy their more simple/focused one. I'm sure there are other ways you can divvy it up and rotate though as well. Just depends on the group.

all you need is 1 pilote 1 engineer ( that can also go outside ) and 1 gunner

give the main gun to the gunner and put some B.R.A.I.N gun around the ship.

engineer will be busy as usual but you dont really need anything more really

Some people prefer Frigate, some prefer Destroyer for the 3-players runs.
In our internal playsessions I pretty much enjoy Destroyer more - but it also requires you to know the layout of the ship well, and have some mobility perks if you run a time-sensitive build (eg. extra damage for flipped circuit breakers).

Some players get it pretty quickly, some players need a bit more time to memorize where things are :)
If it makes sense with the Relics, I put the Power Generators in the back, so they don't take valuable space in the front part of the ship.
And if there's more power needed, I can run there and enhance the Generators, while also charging the Thruster Boosters for the pilot.

As for the OP question, I've seen many successful 3 player end-game screens sent by our community, and we also internally play in all the player configurations.

I'd say you'd be fine, and if you need some extra tips, there are some nice threads here in the forum, but also our great community is very helpful on our official Discord:

3 people is more than enough.

3-man crews definitely work on both ship sizes, my crew often flies the destroyer with just 3 and we have 1 pilot, 1 gunner and 1 engineer with the gunner or engineer doubling as the scavenger sometimes.
