It could (and should) be a more important mechanic, but there are currently no consequences for having a low oxygen concentration or unrealistic ship temperatures. it can be +/- 99 degrees in the ship at 25% oxygen concentration and your character is completely fine.
People vent their ships to cool their weapons as a "core mechanic" of the game, but shooting the guns doesn't warm the ship in reverse, even though by the same logic it totally should.
I know our ectypes are in "spacesuits" but they don't appear to be fully sealed unless you put a EVA augmentation jet pack on.
Juggling life support systems would give an engineer more to do, and I know a few who can't get enough jobs around the ship, they want more to do. (Engine trim doesn't seem to do much even if it gets low, so they should do something about that too.)
Did you know you can build extra life support systems with animus crates? Why would this even be a thing if the devs didn't have plans to expand upon the concept.
