just learn the mechanics to come out on top
Also it gets much better after you reach a higher level and get some "buffs" for your role.
(but I'd love to see the ability to fully repair a ship hehe)
Then yes, for 2 people it might be much harder. Full group is a-ok tho.
The ability to repair a ship "past" the hull breaches / passively regen some HP would be a nice perk for engineer, and a much needed buff for their gene tree
Honestly if you have a competent team you can overcome any objective regardless of situation / difficulty settings.
1. Prioritize optional objectives first. They often give some much needed resources with no extra threats.
2. The pilot has to learn how to manoeuvre the ship to dodge incoming fire and keep targets in range for the gunner(s). Avoid flying in a straight line for long periods in a battle. My go to strategy is flying above targets, circling or weaving as I follow them. Also: Always use third person view while piloting!
3. Ignore the smallest fighter ships and focus on the main objectives and bigger enemies. It's better to tank some damage and get the objective done fast because the enemies won't stop coming.
4. Learn the missions. They play out pretty much the same every time. This also helps you avoid mission types you find too difficult.
5. Orient your ship to face the exit before initiating void jump in a battle. It sometimes takes really long time for the ship to automatically orient itself and this can get you killed very easily.
6. Remember to press tab to make the enemy/objective markers permanently visible. This helps a lot with keeping track of things around you.
7. Fix your ship after void jumping. There shouldn't be any immediate threats after arriving in a new location.
8. You can start charging the void jump immediately after arriving so it will be ready when you need to escape.
Hope these tips help!
Edit: Maybe rewards should reflect the mission type a bit more then they do currently.
Sadly, the grease monkey tree is just plain bad. There isn't a single useful thing in the entire tree. Even a Scrapper is better at working on the ship than a grease monkey. Upgrades are best done after leaving warp. You always warp in away from enemies and it's calm, use this time to fabricate, upgrade, fix everything. Explore side objectives, and derelict ships/stations for resources, they have few enemies near them and usually have a bunch of materials and tools. The stuff that drops from fighting is mostly just icing on the cake.
