This is where I think some very limited AI modules on the turrets could come in really handy, just to fill that gap. If the turrets could auto engage enemies while the person still on the ship could fly (even if they mostly sucked at aiming), it would relieve a lot of the pressure.
It definitely seems balanced more towards having that extra 3rd person around but when you plan around expecting to be outgunned its doable and alot of fun.
It definitely seemed balanced around 3 people, but is possible with 2. I did that mission and we shot the cores and got THE ♥♥♥♥ out. Took like 70% damaged, but survived I suppose. Its rough and could prolly use a bit of 2 player scaling? Or at least a difficulty choice.
Other missions are pretty simple with 2, like the protect one.
