Only 7 relics available?
New player.
Most roguelikes let you hold as many as you want. having to give one up when I get a new one makes what should be a hype moment into a downer moment instead.

its to reduce power creep, if u just have infinite amount of relics it wont be as balanced.
It's because of the 'Set bonuses' system. You have to pick and choose what you want to hold, keeping in mind both the ability of the artifact and the set bonuses it helps work towards (also you can use Grinders to destroy artifacts to make space while retaining their set bonuses).

Skul the Hero Slayer does something very similar and likewise has limited artifact slots.
It is a maddening and ingenious addition, forcing you to choose between set bonuses and vestige effects. It's be nice if there were more extractors...

the limit is what makes your choices matter, adding up throughout the course of a run. Destroying them for the set bonuses is how you get around the limitation.

Unlimited vestiges could be a fun idea for a daily modifier though i suppose. Most of the mods limit them to fewer which I personally don't enjoy very much
Other games let you have unlimited relics, this is the first roguelike I can think of that limits me.

Those choices matter too, if you pick something with limited usefulness to your build you've squandered the choice.

It doesn't matter though, I've already refunded.

I don't quite follow what you are saying here though, you pick something with limited usefulness and then you drop it when you find an item that fits your build. If you need the set bonuses you could also just choose to shred it for the set bonus permanently. Its not like having 7 slots is going to make you feel any less powerful since most of the effects are very game changing or build defining.

But it appears you have made your choice. Its a shame that you didn't enjoy their design choice but it is what it is.
