How to complete Janus quest "A theory on lost ink"

I have been trying to complete this quest a few times now and I am baffled about why I am not getting it done. The quest is "Defeat Janus the Malformed before enemies gain Inky Might 13 times from Training Mode."

I have literally 2 shot Janus and still not gotten this quest completed. What am I doing wrong?

Idk what happened differently in my last run but i switched to Obelisk and I killed it. I'm now wondering if Mosscloak flurry triggers multiple stacks of training mode and if that is why I failed.

flurry hit a number of times based on how many shuikens you have. So 1-5 times.

I'm playing with a buddy and we ignore all the extra enemies, only hit the boss and by the time the boss gets 7 stacks on himself, the quest is failed. None of the minions have any inky might; just the 7 on the boss. We are at a loss on how to clear this infuriating quest.

EDIT: I finally cleared the quest. Ran solo as the miner and got 3 +5 burn augments in a skill. Then I smacked the boss once to apply all those burns, skipped the rounds waiting for cooldown while taking damage from everything else I was too afraid to touch then reapplied more burns when cooldown was up. after attacking the boss 3 times, losing most of my health and waiting patiently for the burns to kill him, the quest is finally complete. pretty much ruined the rest of my run as I came out of the fight with 8hp but no more quest. Dont do it with friends. Pretty sure it divides the allowable stack of inky might by the players. Would explain why my quest said 13 but would fail every time my buddy and I hit 7

I can't do it, also have killed in a few rounds when janus only had 5 stacks but it did not complete, what the heck is "training mode" supposed to mean on this quest? is that the issue?

Training mode is the ability Janus has; each time you hit, enemies gain one more power. So to win, you need to do less then 13 hits.

I haven't done it yet, but I think it's all of the enemies combines, including Janus. Definitely the hardest to do, but probably easier trying on unranked at least.

I did it on mosscloak with poison spam, but I just ignored the adds and stacked poison on the boss.

It can be somewhat easier with multiple players as the times to hit for "Training Mode" to proc an inky might is just equal to number of players, did find this significantly easier as a burn or poison type build, and there's also potentially the ability to do it with zero hits by using a mosscloak with poison dash (x1-3) as it's not considered a hit and won't stack up inky might at all. Same with the vestige flamey - o, or anything that doesn't do connect damage.

I tested, dash is considered as a hit, which sucks, because you cannot apply Mark with it for free. To make it worse, poison runs out too fast and you will waste extra Training Mode stacks to reapply it. The worst quest SO FAR.

Yeah, I haven't been able to complete this mission across many runs with any class/build, I only play solo and at this point this mission feels impossible for me, it usually fails before I hit the 50% mark even on my best runs.

I did this one on unranked with a critical hit build on Obelisk, be sure to save any fish/potions that give you a major boost in attack/crit chance.

Just did the quest with Mosscloak and poison. Killed Janus in 2 turns. SeemsGood
