Inkbound
Season Pass, Shinies, and online store?
After putting hours into Monster Train and its DLC, when I heard they were making a fantasy turn based strategy game, I was excited. However, after play testing for 6 hours I came to find out it online constantly, not just for testing purposes, but because the plan is to make it a live service game. I'm flat out heartbroken at Shiny Shoe.

This shouldn't be the direction games take, and it's not like this is an MMO.

I play a lot of my games offline and solo. So another online only experience, wipes out a good amount of my ability to even access the title. But I'm definitely not paying 19.99 to be reminded that I can pay more money, to enhance a game that I already paid for and can't access offline. If I wanted that, I'd go back to a real system like WoW, that doesn't poke and prod you with monetization reminders.

Except wow constant reminds you with buying wowtokens, or mounts or anything else they do during charity events, everytime a new one comes out.
Must be a newer thing, because I generally only ever seen that in the launcher, not in-game. I once went weeks missing out on a mount I wanted because I didn't even know it went on sale. 😆
Disgusting stuff honestly. I've unwishlisted this game and unfollowed it now that I know
how devs feel about their fanbase. They only see us as dumb barn animals they think they can milk and line their pockets.

If I want to deal with season passes and MTX garbage, there's a gazzilion free to play games that offer those. I absolutely will not stand for this in a paid game, especially one that claims to be roguelite lol I'm so insulted right now that devs are so damn greedy they think they can just inject this crap into their game and we'd be so stupid to just go along with it like it's totally okay.

And to those defending it, be wary. Devs can and do make dummy accounts to disguise themselves as players. Some of the responses to this backlash seemed super sketchy all I know. I think most gamers would absolutely push back against these predatory practices, not just sit here and tell others it's totally cool and it's the times. No it's not the times. Just because some people in the world are stupid, doesn't mean everyone else has to be.

I'm just pissed because MT was such a great game. Devs said they may come back to it someday and now I am thinking it's just to inject these F2P mechanics into that game lol Wouldn't be surprised one bit.

Really hope this backfires and devs can just sell us a normal game for a normal price. Or make it free to play and I won't care and I never would of wasted my time wishlisting/following it in the first place. Unbelievable.

I completely agree with you
However, it sadly works sometimes, especially for AAA games.

(looking at diablo 4 which is about to be released as an expensive game + in-game shop + paid battlepass, and I still have friends who will 100% buy it....)
Monster Train was fantastic, but I enjoyed the demo even more. Overall, if they keep the price for the game low and make the seasonal stuff purely cosmetic, then I will have tons of fun with this title.

All the DLC and online only stuff might be annoying to some folks, but it does not affect me in the slightest. So. Yeah. Day 1 buy!
The big issue with this one seems to be the MTX. We're gonna be stuck with lame ass vanilla skins, and only whales will experience the cool graphic options, so stupid. Who wants to pay for a game and then look like a scrub.

No, it's definitely the always online requirement. MTX sucks, but I'd rather have that than just not being allowed to play the game I bought when the servers go down.

Not only that but Steam Deck is also off the table thanks to that. The main reason for me to get a Steam Deck was to play games when I'm not at home. You obviously cannot play games that need you to be online the entire time while you don't have access to the internet.

Great solution to a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place.
