Unable to craft. Craft table freezes

I have no mods installed for this game. I uninstalled and reinstalled. When it is time to craft, I can not move my mouse to click anything to craft, it freezes the screen. The only way out is to press the escape button... Opening chests I have no mouse to select the items inside. So yet again I have to press escape!
